- Football Awards Night
The awards night scheduled for Sat. 21st Feb was cancelled and the new
date will be posted once a decision is made.
Indoor football training for senior and junior players began on Monday,
23rd February at 8.30pm at The WESTEND BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB, Allston St.,
Allston. There was a turnout of only 16 girls, which was poor but it was great
to have 3 of these girls, new players and had played previously with the New
England Youth League. This is both good for the club and ladies football, that
there is a young interest to continue it on.
Training is held every Monday night until further notice. All players
are welcome whether they have played gaelic football
before or not!

Summary
Each of the 2003 committee gave a summary of the past year. Caroline Heraty - Chairperson, spoke highly of the club and its
achievements, namely winning the Barry Fitzgerald cup in May at the New York
7-a-sides to winning the North-Eastern Championship. She spoke of the great
training, managing and the commitment given by Anthony Marley, Benny Howley and Paul Ryan, and how they were the driving force
behind the girls. Also spoken of was the greatest achievement of 2003 in the
establishment of a Junior team, and although there was no silverware in the
cabinet they showed as great determination and commitment to the club
throughout the year, especially Damian McGorman and
Arlene, who took upon themselves the task of managing and training these new to
Gaelic football girls.
The club held two football draws which were both financially successful
for the club, and the girls were credited for their work into this. Sponsorship
for 2003 was from Nash's Bar, Dorchester, and this is likely to be continued
for 2004. There was a discussion regarding football jerseys for 2004, and at
the AGM to the delight of the club, Benny Howley
offered exclusive sponsorship for a set of junior jerseys. This was followed by
sponsorship for footballs by Paul Ryan.
A new committee was elected and it was encouraging to have three of the
positions go to a vote to decide the recipients. There are a few new faces on
the 2004 committee which can only mean more and better ideas for the club. For
2004, it was decided that as well as the football training, the club will focus
on having more social activities for the teams, and that conjoining the senior
and junior teams in these will help make a stronger foundation for Roscommon
Ladies. Also more communication via committee, with meetings, emails and phone
calls will be a top priority.
