Tyler Beauchamp, a senior at Bismarck High School, has been awarded a National Merit Scholarship. He is the son of Jeffrey and Melanie Beauchamp.

Beauchamp has received numerous academic awards as a member of Latin Club, Science Olympiad, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Academic Team, National Society of High School Scholars, All-American Scholar, United States Achievement Academy and student council.

He was the BHS high scorer in the American Math Competition and third place in North Dakota. He has won 15 gold wards in Science Olympiads, and was cum laude and magna cum laude on the national Latin Exam.

Beauchamp is also a member of Strolling Strings and has received star ratings at WDA and state orchestra competitions. He was part of the state championship curling team in 2008. He plans to attend Princeton in the fall.

Bismarck High School's literary magazine, PenSoul, placed third in the nation in the "Best of Show" category at the National Scholastic Press Associations contest in Anaheim, Calif.

Current students on the editorial board are Julia Balliet, Brittney Erickson, Dania Farra, Bre Hohbein, Rachael Kottre, Alyssa Lacis, Amanda Love, Kristen Nagel and Afton Samson. The adviser for PenSoul is Brenda Werner.

On May 14, the St. Mary's Central High School speech team traveled to Jamestown for the state speech tournament.
