WOCCU's Crear Honored by US Community Development CUs
HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Pete Crear, outgoing president and CEO for World Council of Credit Unions, has received "Friend of the Federation" honors from the National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions. The award, presented at the Federation's recent annual conference in Hollywood, is part of a lengthy list of awards Crear has received from credit union and cooperative groups around the world.
"I am honored to be recognized by the Federation," Crear said. "The good work they've done on behalf of community development credit unions across the U.S. is similar to World Council's philosophy and something I greatly admire."
The award was presented following a presentation Crear gave at the event. "You brought honor to every role you have fulfilled in the credit union movement," the plaque read. "Our thanks for your support and inspiration!"
In 2008, Crear received the Foundation for Polish Credit Unions' Feniks Prize, the Polish credit union system's most prestigious award. In 2007, the Michigan Credit Union League presented Crear with its Distinguished Service Award and inducted him into the Michigan Credit Union League Hall of Fame. In 2006, he received the Esther Peterson Consumer Service Award from the Consumer Federation of America.
Crear has also received the inaugural African-American Credit Union Lifetime Achievement Award and was further honored by having the award named after him and a college scholarship established in his name. Crear's contributions to the credit union movement have merited his induction into the CUES Hall of Fame, the Cooperative Development Foundation Hall of Fame and earned him the National Credit Union Foundation's Herb Wegner Lifetime Achievement Award, the U.S. credit union movement's highest honor.
Credit union delegates from around the world will further honor Crear at the 2011 World Credit Union Conference, his last official public appearance as WOCCU president and CEO. For more information about the event, scheduled for July 24-27 in Glasgow, Scotland, go to www.woccu.org/glasgow2011 .

Lots of questions, lots of concerns: that’s why Consumers Credit Union (CCU) is bringing back our popular seminar, “Home Buying Made Easy.” The credit union has teamed up with Consumers Cooperative Association, its sponsor, to provide practical to questions about financing options, purchasing decisions and more.
