4 Opry Mills anchors to reopen for holidays

For those wanting to catch an IMAX, do a little Christmas shopping or mix dinner with playtime, a handful of shops at the flood-damaged Opry Mills mall are reopening early, in time for the 2011 holiday season.

Four anchor businesses — Regal Cinemas Opry Mills Stadium 20 and IMAX, Dave & Buster’s, VF Outlet and Sun & Ski Sport — expect to relaunch before the official opening of the mall, planned for March 29, 2012.

Opry Mills is the last tourist attraction to remain closed after the historic May 2010 flood , and its restoration is important for the economy and community morale, said Matt Wiltshire, director of the Mayor’s Office of Economic and Community Development.

“It is a great symbolic moment in terms of the recovery from the flood and that important economic engine coming back to life,” he said.

The four businesses are located in the same area of the mall and don’t require all of its common areas and entrances to be finished, said Gregg Goodman, president of The Mills Co., which operates the mall. Although some smaller shops may be ready to open before March, it is not feasible to finish the entire interior of the mall by then, he said.

Regal Cinemas has no exterior entrance, so the common area in that section of the mall will have to be ready. Officials are unsure of an exact date but said the four stores should be open for the 2011 holiday season, joining Bass Pro Shops, which reopened in October 2010.

Many of the retailers in the mall before the flood have decided to come back, including Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th, Banana Republic, J. Crew, Brooks Brothers, Ann Taylor, Victoria’s Secret, Tommy Hilfiger and Off Broadway Shoes.

Opry Mills will also host new outlets when it reopens, such as Coach Factory Store, Calvin Klein, Tommy Bahama Outlet, Talbots, Chico’s, White House Black Market, Under Armour Factory House and The Lego Store.

Some stores opened temporary locations while the mall is closed, while others simply remained shut down. Goodman wouldn’t say which shops decided not to return to Opry Mills.

Restaurants are also planning to reopen, with Rainforest Cafe, Aquarium Restaurant and Opry Mills’ food court to open in 2012.

Flood damages to the property are expected to exceed $200 million, and while Opry Mills remains in a dispute over insurance money, the mall worked with stakeholders, lenders and tenants to find funds to begin construction two months ago.

The Office: season 4 - DVD review

Fared much better than other shows with its truncated season, I still expect a DVD set without a full season's worth of episodes to have enough bonus features to help make up for it. While the features on this set are pretty standard (deletes scenes, blooper reels, commentaries, etc.) for the most part, the quality makes you forget that the set is light about ten episodes. I love it when I get bonus physical items like postcards or stickers when I buy a set like this, so I was quite excited to see that this DVD set comes with a shooting script for "Dinner Party," which was the first episode back after the strike. My only complaint is that its designed to fit in between the DVD case and the outer box, making it difficult to wedge it back in after you take it out. are so ridiculously funny that watching an episode with commentary is again, almost like watching a bonus episode. Plus, it's always interesting to hear the writers who play parts on the show talk about the episode without being in character. It's fun to hear Mindy Kaling sound smart and together, unlike her character Kelly. It was also heartening to hear Paul Lieberstein sounding a lot less... pathetic than Toby usually does. Not everything in the special features section is great, though. The blooper reel was surprisingly disappointing. I turned it on hoping for interactions between cast members, line improvisations, and just general behind-the-scenes-shenanigans. While there was a little bit of that, mostly it was a cast member looking at the camera, flubbing a line, and laughing. I understand that when you're punch drunk and in the middle of your fifteenth hour in a seventeen hour day, the fact that you're unable to say "sex addict" is hilarious, but for the viewer at home, it just gets a little repetitive. convention. Not having been able to attend the convention myself, being able to see at least some of it on the DVD set sounded great. Unfortunately, it wasn't. The segment looks like it was shot by a random audience member. The sound doesn't come from the soundboard, instead it's just ambient. Despite the fact that the camera seems to be on a tripod, it's still ridiculously shaky. I was really looking forward to hear all of the show's writers talking about the different episodes they worked on, but the poor quality made me give up after about five minutes or so. sage

I couldn't agree with your points more, Kona. I was *so* looking forward to the bloopers because no previous seasons included them, but this batch was oddly disappointing. And that "Writer's Block" piece could have been wonderful, but like you, I gave up watching after a few minutes (and I am truly a die-hard fan). A shame they didn't plan that better.... I also think Season 3 was the best season! All in all, however, Season 4 is still worth the cash outlay and time investment.
