Richmond Police probe 12 thefts, burglaries reported in five days

On Saturday, May 28, the resident reported to police that the following items had been stolen from the apartment: an unknown brand DVD player; 15 DVDs; a white Apple iPod, 30GB; a Super Nintendo video game system with three games; a ladies’ one-carat diamond cluster in the shape of a flower on a 14-carat, yellow- gold size six band; a set of white gold hoop earrings with a one-half carat diamond in each; a set of white-gold hoop earrings with diamonds; a white-gold chain necklace with pendant containing a one-fourth carat diamond; a sterling silver cuff bracelet; and a ladies’ 10-carat, white-gold Promise ring with one diamond in the middle and one on each side, each one-fourth carat. The estimated loss is $44,640. The stolen items included: a Nikon D300 digital SLR camera, three Nikon SB800 Speedlight flashes (two recovered), a Nikon SB600 Speedlight flash, a Nikon 50mm camera lens, two Manfrotto light stands, three umbrellas, a deep cycle auxiliary battery, a Nikon Nikkor 70-200mm camera lens, a Nikon TC-17E II teleconverter (1.7x), a Lowepro vertex 300 AW digital camera bag a BH-3 ball head and a Gitzo tripod, model GT3330LS. • Two residents of apartments in the 200 block of N. Madison Avenue reported Tuesday, May 24, that items had been stolen overnight from in front of their apartments. One resident reported that three white plastic chairs and a potted fern plant were stolen, while the second resident reported that a small wrought-iron bench with a wood seat had been taken. The estimated loss is $136.

It has a base plate which is 5x3 inches and is pretty solid with that camera. The thing is I have to thread the camera on and off each time I set it up. Not a huge issue but it can be a bit cumbersome. Dose anyone know of a solid quick release with a big footprint that would work on this head? I too have a Gitzo R 3 pan and tilt head, and like it very much. However, one of the most solid quick mounts is the system with the Linhof Kardan Panorama Large Studion tilting tripod head. The diameter of the quick release section is just smaller than the mounting plate on the Dorff V8. Then you snap it onto the Kardan head, tighten up the clamping lever, and leave the Gitzo at home for when you use the 4x5...
