Something insidious is happening in the news media. I am shocked that newscasters like NBC are losing their sense of what our democracy has been all about_ making sure the minority are respected and protected and have a voice. Diversity has always been our country’s strength. Banning or even trying to ban Dennis Kucinich from the presidential debates is a blatant example of one network (perhaps unaware of their impropriety) losing an important mandate to serve the public good and thereby undermining our democratic way of life. I have a difficult time understanding why Tim Russert asked Dennis Kucinich about UFO’s in a presidential debate. Presidents have admitted seeing them. it seemed to me that Russert’s intent was to say, “Don’t listen to this guy.” Russert came across as smug and demeaning to me. Dennis has raised some legitimate concerns about the voting apparatus in this country. It is a serious matter that needs our attention. Many times in history, the one who is ignored is right and is vindicated much later on (unfortunately). I am disappointed in Tim Russert, in so-called news coverage in general, in the duping of news anchors by political spin, by newscasters inability to to bring untruthfulness to the attention of the public, by their bias toward the interests of the wealthy and powerful and their disregard for the looming loss of our middle class. It is time for “We The People” to use our voice.
